METALLICA ROCKSPIRIT Le blog hommage aux Four Horsemen

A l'occasion de la sortie en Juin prochain de son nouvel ouvrage entièrement consacré au défunt bassiste Cliff Burton, "To Live Is To Die: The Life And Death Of Metallica's Cliff Burton", Joel McIver a accepté de répondre à quelques-unes des nombreuses interrogations que soulèvent cette biographie. Une biographie inédite puisque l'auteur anglais est en effet le premier depuis la mort du bassiste en 1986 a en retracé la vie mais également les circonstances de sa mort encore à l'heure actuelle énigmatiques. Cet ouvrage a par ailleurs eu le soutien du groupe (ce qui n'avait pas été le cas pour "Que Justice Soit Faite !") et en particulier de Kirk Hammett, qui a notamment apporté de nombreux témoignages et anectodes mais également rédigé la préface de l'ouvrage. Ce dernier sera disponible dès le 30 Juin mais uniquement en version anglaise en attendant une traduction française et une prochaine publication confirmée aux Editions Camion Blanc dont la date n'a toujours pas été déterminée (fin 2009 / début 2010 ?). Une autre interview de Joel McIver beaucoup plus complète cette fois a d'ores et déjà été programmée lors de la publication du livre en France.

1. In the 23 years since the dramatic coach crash, no one has chronicled Burton's huge talent and achievements in book form. Why you are the first to write a biography about Cliff Burton? We are the feeling that he's a very enigmatic member, what do you think?

Joel McIver: Hi man. It's a mystery to me why no-one has written a biography of Cliff before now. I've wanted to write one for a long time, and because both Metallica and the bass guitar are specialist subjects, I hope I've done the job which he deserves. Yes, he was quite an enigmatic man: from the many interviews with his friends and associates which I've done for the book, it's obvious that he didn't speak much -- but when he did, it was important.

2. Kirk Hammett provides foreword to first-ever Cliff Burton biography. Which informations or testimonies Kirk has brought?

Kirk gave a perspective that no-one else has on Cliff -- his closest friend in Metallica. He told me some surprising revelations about Master Of Puppets which you won't believe!

3. Were the causes of the accident on September 27,1986 identified?

No charges were brought against the driver. On the other hand, a lot of people think that there was no black ice on the road. It's an open verdict which has never been resolved.

4. What do you think about Death Magnetic new album? Good or bad album?
